A Look At Augusta Nation #2: Pink Dogwood

What fascinates the hole for me is that the trees are a long ways away from the green whereas most courses have the trees around the green. One thing you realize about Augusta is that Bobby Jones was very aware that golfers would hit the ball longer, even perhaps beyond his imagination and Jones left Augusta plenty of room to make the proper adjustments:

575 yards
Par 5

Original Intent:"Although this is the longest hole on the course, a well-hit tee shot will take a good run down the fairway as it slopes over the hill. It was one of our guiding principles in building the Augusta National that even our par 5s should be reachable by two excellent shots."- Bobby Jones, in Sports Illustrated, April 6, 1959

Significant Changes:
- Fairway bunker shifted to right, 1999
- Tee moved back 20-25 yards, 1999

History Average Score: 4.81
History Rank: 16th
